Peneda-Gerês National Park

Dog-Friendly Holiday House in Gerês

A private holiday house in Louredo, Gerês, where pets are welcome with prior approval, about five minutes from the trails of Peneda-Gerês National Park.

A Holiday House Where Your Dog Is Welcome

Travelling with a dog takes a little more planning, and knowing in advance where you are going to stay makes the whole trip easier. Our holiday houses in Louredo, Vieira do Minho, sit about five minutes' drive from Peneda-Gerês National Park, so the first walk of the day starts soon after you open the door.

Pets are only permitted with prior approval. Guests are responsible for their pets and for any damage, excessive cleaning or disturbance they cause, and pets must not be left unattended if doing so could cause damage or disturbance. Send us a message before you book, tell us about your dog and the dates you have in mind, and we will confirm what is possible.

Each villa sleeps up to 10 guests in four bedrooms and seven bathrooms (three in the ground-floor one-bedroom apartment and four in the top-floor three-bedroom apartment), so there is room for the whole family, dog included. You can rent the whole house or a floor with its own separate entrance, and after a long walk the terrace, the infinity pool and the heated jacuzzi are waiting.

The Walks Around Louredo

Peneda-Gerês is Portugal's only national park, and walking is the best way to see it. There are more than 40 marked trails in the park, from gentle family walks to long mountain routes, and many of them lead to waterfalls, natural pools and viewpoints. Our guide to the waterfalls of Gerês collects the cascades and trails in one place, so you can pick a walk to suit the weather on the day.

The park is working farmland as well as wilderness: long-horned Barrosã cattle roam the villages and wild garrano ponies graze on the high plateaus. Keep your dog under control and close to you when you meet animals or pass through a village, and follow the local signs — some areas of the park have access restrictions to protect the habitat.

Most walks here are on granite and can be slippery after rain, so boots and a towel for muddy paws are worth packing.

A Base for the Whole Family

The houses are set up for groups: every bedroom is a private suite with its own bathroom, the kitchen is fully equipped and there is a wine cellar for evenings in. The living spaces open onto the terrace, the infinity pool and the heated jacuzzi.

There is a small gym with the option of trainers and therapists, and massages and yoga classes can be booked on demand. Catering is available at special pricing on request, and airport transfers can be arranged. Both villas have air conditioning and central heating, private parking and fibre internet, and the retreat is licensed local accommodation (AL 163176/AL).

The infinity pool is not heated; the jacuzzi is. The pool and jacuzzi are shared between the three-bedroom and one-bedroom units of the same villa, since both belong to the same house.
